The Prophet Jeremiah wrote about the lying prophtes throughout his book. There were several lying prophets, priests, and shepherds misleading the people of God. There are countless false spiritual leaders doing the same within the body of Christ. Jeremiah, the prophet said unto his people as the Spirit spoke through him, the following:

"Am I a God at hand, saith the Lord, and not a God afar off? Can any hide himself in secret places that I shall not see him, saith the Lord. Do not I fill heaven and earth? saith the Lord. I have heard what the prophets said, that prophesy lies in my name, saying I have dreamed, I have dreamed. How long shall this be in the heart of the prophets that prophesy lies? yea, they are prophets of the deceit of their own heart; Which think to cause my people to forget my name by their dreams, which they telll every man to his neigghbour, as their fathers have forgotten my name for Baal." - Jeremiah 23:23-27.

I doubt that I can over emphasize the importance of you trying the spirit of every individual who desires to speak a word unto you. There are countless false prophets and spiritual leaders in the world and the Church. Lucifer deceived one third of the angels in heaven; after being cast out he deceived Eve in the Garden of Eden in the form of the serpent. The devil has continuously used mankind as his agents of deception and if we don't try or examine the spirits of men, we will also succumb to deception. Adam and Eve obtained knowledge by the wrong means and were persuaded to do so because Eve was deceived. Here is one of Johnson's famous quotations in relation to knowledge, "Integrity without knowledge is weak and useless, and knowledge without integrity is dangerous and dreadful." They acquired good and evil knowledge and because of Adam and Eve's methods of obtaining the same, the souls of mankind are in bondage to sin. Our freedom and spiritual liberty is in Jesus Christ, the second Adam. However, we must keep in mind that knowledge without integrity is extremely dangerous and discernment is very important for our spiritual survival.
