Author Emily Jeanne Miller has beautifully crafted an emotional portrait of a Cape Cod family. She writes about Vance Lake who is broke, jobless and recently dumped. Amanda who is seventeen years old and pregnant. Because of her pregnancy Amanda is scared, she is ashamed and also indignant. Craig, Vance's brother is heartbroken, full of rage and has his broke brother now living with him on Cape Cod. To make things worse for Craig, his wife Gina is on the brink of having an affair.... the list goes on with these characters.

For these people on Cape Cod, the News from the End of the World exposes their resentments, old and new secrets and resurrects a lot of long time buried memories. For Vance, Craig, Amanda and Gina, only by coming to terms with their pasts, as individuals and together are they able to stand a chance of emerging intact.
